STF IG injured as jawan's prank backfires

coimbatore: in a freak accident, joint stf ig k vijayakumar whose services have been recalled from the bsf by the jayalalitha government to nab the elusive forest brigand got injured on sunday midnight inside the dense satyamangalam forests. stf sources said that vijayakumar was taking rest inside the forest during the usual hunt for veerappan. ``after long hours of walking, he wanted to take some rest and was lying on a blanket. some 10 to 12 guards were sitting around him.'' meanwhile other stf men along with their bsf counterparts had gone inside the forest for combing. it is learnt that as the bsf men moved inside the forest, they spotted an elephant with her calf not very far. one bsf soldier, it appears, pulled the calf's tail for sheer fun. the enraged mother gave a loud trumpet and chased the stf and bsf personnel. the personnel ran for their lives. one bsf jawan who came running stumbled over vijayakumar. in the melee, vijayakumar's right leg got severely sprained when it was hit by the butt of the gun. ``it all happened within few seconds. and as he tried to get up resting his hands on the floor, the glass pieces that lay there pierced into them. but, somehow, he managed to escape from the scene'', the sources said. the sources further said that though vijayakumar had applied 10 days leave and had arrived at his parental house at coimbatore, he had been asked not to move out of satyamangalam. ``now he stays at the base camp and gives instructions to us. the injury is not permitting him to participate in the combing operations'', the sources said. the mischief making bsf personnel meanwhile have been taken off stf services.
